Reimagining Sky Go on desktop

My Role

I went back to Sky for a brief contract to design a new look for their flagship media consumption app, Sky Go.

Sky Go Desktop

Sky Go is the multi-format app made by Sky in-house, that allows customers to access their channels and content wherever they are. The mobile apps have been updated continuously, yet the desktop app hadn't have any love for quite some years. I was asked back to get involved.  I was a solo Product Designer working along side a Lead. Together we gathered requirements from the multitude of stakeholders and set about the next-gen desktop design. It was quite a complex proposition in terms of the look and feel. At the time, the major TV system installed in homes was SKY Q; Sky Glass had a smaller market share yet the app would work for both customer sets so we had to decide on a look and feel that would compliment both interfaces.

I was responsible for designing the new UI and creating highly detailed specifications to hand over to developers. I saw also working very closely with the internal Accessibility Team, running workshops and testing, to design a fully accessible linear TV Guide. When we had a final solution, I had to present to senior stakeholders to sell the vision.

Sadly due to budget cuts caused by a merger with Comcast, the app wasn't released 🥲 but it was a fantastic experience with lots of learnings to take away.
